Please note: This session is designed to be interactive and participatory. You’ll be invited to practice an ask with one other attendee in your own Zoom breakout room, debrief with the presenter’s support and coaching, then return to practice one more time and come back to debrief and get more support and coaching. While you don’t have to participate in the asking practice portion of the workshop, we encourage you to take the leap and do so!
Description:
Knowing how to ask for money isn’t the same as actually doing it. Asking for money can feel deeply uncomfortable and many nonprofit leaders find themselves avoiding the very conversations that would most strengthen their funding and donor relationships. Without real practice, the ask stays stuck in your head instead of being made confidently in real life.
In this webinar, Beth Raps will take you beyond understanding into actually making an ask by practicing it. Building on her rules and tools for heartfelt, honest, and respectful asking, this session is an interactive workshop. After learning core principles, you’ll be paired with another participant in a private Zoom breakout room to practice your ask one-on-one. You’ll then come back together with everyone for a guided debrief with Beth providing expert feedback and sharing insights to improve your asking in real time. You’ll return to the breakout room to practice your ask again, applying what you’ve just learned with greater clarity and confidence. We’ll gather one last time to share insights and receive final coaching.
You’ll learn how to:
- translate fundraising principles into language that feels natural to you;
- make an ask live in a supportive, low-pressure environment;
- stay grounded and present when fear or nerves arise; and
- refine your ask through expert coaching and insights.
Who should attend:
This interactive workshop is ideal for nonprofit staff, board members, and volunteers who are ready to move past avoidance and start practicing the conversations that fund their mission.
After the webinar, you’ll receive:

Beth Raps
RAISING CLARITY's Founder Beth Raps began fundraising in her 20s, training in face-to-face asking with two of the best in the field—Kim Klein and Andrea Ayvazian, as well as learning event planning, annual planning, and mass appeals. Her learning was also in the field--she put these skills to work immediately as just one of three staff in a statewide organization, and then used them to create a statewide grantmaking foundation when she was just 26. Moving to Washington, DC led Beth from grantwriting for national organizations to development consulting with a focus on major donor gifts and face-to-face asking. Certified by the Money Coaching Institute as a money coach to help both individuals and nonprofits heal their relationship with money, Beth founded RAISING CLARITY in 2012 to integrate relationship-driven, annual-plan and campaign fundraising with the art of face-to-face asking and the healing power of money coaching. She leads with empathy, humor, and joy in her trainings, where laughter and "Aha!" moments abound. For more about her approach: https://raisingclarity.com/consulting/
