The Matrix Causes Fund, a charitable fund administered by Prism, provides grants to a wide range of charities throughout the U.K. and internationally.

Support is provided to organizations which promote:

  • access to justice (particularly for people trying to get support to meet their basic personal needs);
  • equality of opportunity; and,
  • a sustainable environment.

Grant Details

UK charity applicants can apply for one of the following MCF grants:
One-time grant of up to £6,500; or,
Multi-year grant of up to £4,500 per year for up to three years.

International applicants and U.K.-based organizations that are not registered charities may apply for a one-time MCF grant of up to £6,500.

Registered charities

Restriction Details

The MCF will not fund the following:

  • general or core operating expenses, including staff salaries, overheads, CRM software, marketing materials, and general administrative costs such as insurance;
  • travel and accommodation costs, including international travel and meeting expenses;
  • room hire, rent, or utilities;
  • legal fees, including court fees;
  • items that solely benefit the end user, such as food, toiletries, sanitary products, mobile phones or credit, uniforms, clothing, gifts, parties, entertainment, holidays, routine training, and routine IT equipment or upgrades for personal use;
  • out-of-pocket expenses or incidentals for volunteers or participants;
  • organizational setup costs, research and development, or the development of guidelines;
  • construction costs, building materials, or non-specialist furniture;
  • items, services, or support typically provided by public bodies (e.g., schools, the NHS, Legal Aid, local councils, or government agencies); and,
  • retrospective funding.
