Roughly 1 in 10 Americans suffer from some form of diabetes. Untreated, this condition can have serious impacts on quality of life. And yet, diabetes medication continues to be extremely unaffordable for many. This is why there are many nonprofits dedicated to helping provide assistance and aid to those suffering from diabetes, as well as research for more effective and accessible treatments.

These nonprofits are only able to do what they do thanks to the generous donations provided by diabetes grants. These grants can be put towards a wide range of purposes, including support of community screenings, educational workshops on diabetes management, clinical research, support for patients and caregivers and covering medical payments. 

These grants are provided by a wide range of organizations. These can include both federal organizations, as well as private foundations such as the American Diabetes Association. 

When drafting a diabetes grant proposal, it’s important to use data to back up your claims. Depending on the purpose of your nonprofit, statistics you may want could include the prevalence of diabetes in your chosen community or the healthcare costs associated with diabetes. Good places to start looking for this data include sources such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
