Art history promotes not just a greater appreciation for our local and national cultures, but a greater understanding of where those cultures came from, and where they could be going in the future. Of course, just like art itself, art history often requires support from nonprofits. These nonprofits, in turn, need support from art history grants in order to pursue their cultural mission.

These grants can be put towards a wide range of purposes and programs. These can include the preservation of art, research funding, art digitization efforts, or educational programs. There are many different organizations that might write these kinds of grants. These traditionally included federal agencies such as the National Endowment for the Humanities. There are also many private foundations in this space, such as the Getty Foundation  and the Kress Foundation. 

When drafting an art history grant proposal, it's essential to back up your claims with data. This data needs to be specialized to your specific cause.
