Charter schools are invaluable for fostering education and expanding opportunities among communities of students who may otherwise be underserved. However, charter schools, like any other form of education, require funding to continue operation. In areas where state or federal funding is unavailable, nonprofits can step in to help these charter schools continue to operate. 

However, these nonprofits are only able to do their important work through the generous funding provided by charter school grants. These grants help pay for everything from educator salaries to upgrades to the educational facilities themselves.

These grants can come from a wide range of sources. These traditionally included federal sources, such as the  U.S. Department of Education’s Charter Schools Program. State and local agencies may also be involved in providing the funding needed for charter schools.

When preparing a charter school grant proposal, it's important to include plenty of relevant academic statistics, specific to the community you want to serve. This could include statistics on academic performance, graduation rates and enrollment disparities. Sources such as the National Center for Education Statistics are a great place to get started.
