The bereavement process puts a massive burden on individuals and families in terms of emotions, psychological health and finances. And yet, those families and individuals are often expected to navigate this landscape of grief with little outside support. This is why many nonprofit organizations step up to try to take on some of the burden.

These nonprofits are only able to do this good work thanks to the generous funding provided by bereavement grants. These grants help cover many different different programs and initiatives. These can include paying for grief counseling, support groups or hospice care.

There are many different organizations that might provide bereavement grants. These include many different private foundations, such as the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization, the New York Life Foundation and the Compassionate Friends. 

When drafting bereavement grant proposals, it's essential to include relevant data. You need to make it clear that the grief or bereavement related issue you are tackling is widespread, and that your nonprofit has a plan to address it. Good places to get started finding this data include the National Alliance for Grieving Children or the National Institute of Mental Health
