Domestic Violence and Child Abuse Grants for Nonprofits

Domestic violence is not discussed perhaps as much as it should be when it comes to major issues challenging everyday Americans. But that does not make this issue any less serious. There are many excellent nonprofit groups out there that tirelessly work to destigmatize conversations around domestic abuse, and provide support to those suffering from it.

These nonprofits are only able to pursue their mission due to the generous donations provided by domestic violence grants. These grants can be put towards a variety of purposes. These could include the establishment and funding of crisis intervention centers and secure emergency shelters. It can also be put towards programs for counseling, mental health services, legal advocacy for survivors and community education campaigns about domestic violence.

These domestic violence grants can come from a wide range of sources. These include federal agencies like the Office on Violence Against Women, as well as state government programs. There are also many private foundations that provide domestic violence grants, such as the NoVo Foundation and RAINN. It is also not uncommon to find corporate social responsibility initiatives and local community organizations that contribute funds towards domestic violence grants.

When preparing a proposal for a domestic violence grant, it’s important to collect the most impactful data possible. Don’t dance around the statistics - the numbers can often speak volumes themselves. But you also have to “bring it home.” Use local statistics. Testimonials can be powerful, but many are uncomfortable discussing this topic. If you can’t reach survivors for testimonials for your nonprofit, don’t force it. Expert testimonials can often be just as impactful.
