Nonprofits are no more immune to emergencies than the rest of us. Whether it's a natural disaster, a spike in demand for services or unexpected expenses, nonprofits often find themselves in a position where they need immediate financial support to remain afloat. Emergency grants are designed to provide funding at these crucial moments.

Emergency services grants can come from a variety of sources, including governmental relief programs, corporate donors or private foundations. When applying for an emergency services grant, you need to be able to clearly demonstrate your immediate need. But you’ll need the human touch as well - make it clear the importance of the work that your nonprofit does, and how the communities that rely on you might be impacted if they no longer have your funding. Testimonials are great to include.

You’ll also need to clearly lay out how you will use the grant to address the crisis. Make this clear and direct. Identify what is actually endangering your nonprofit, and how you can use the grant to extricate yourself.
