Green spaces and greenways are not something every city and community gets to benefit from. However, these kinds of spaces have significant benefits to the environment and health of communities. There are many nonprofits that make it their mission to protect these spaces, or establish new ones. 

These nonprofits can only do their good work thanks to the generous funding provided by greenspace and greenways grants. These grants can be put towards maintaining or creating a wide range of green spaces - including public parks, trails, waterways, paths and green corridors. 

There are a range of organizations that provide these kinds of grants. Traditionally this included federal agencies. Many private foundations also provide these kinds of grants. 

 When drafting a green pace and greenways grant proposal, it's essential to back up your claim with data. You need to prove that there is a real need in your chosen community, and that your nonprofit is uniquely poised to address this need. Examples of statistics you may want to collect could include resident access to green space, air quality, urban heat island effect or regional biodiversity. Good places to start collecting this sort of data could be the CDC’s PLACES Data or the EPA’s EnviroAtlas.
