Human rights are the foundation of any society with true justice. They ensure dignity, fairness and freedom for all. But the concept of universal human rights is a relatively new one, and is a fragile ideal. There are many nonprofits right now that work tirelessly to pursue missions that promote human rights. But these organizations are only able to do what they do thanks to the generous funding provided by human rights grants.

These human rights grants can be put towards a wide range of purposes, including the support of advocacy campaigns, legal assistance, shelter and medical aid. There are an equally wide range of organizations that might provide these kinds of grants. This includes many private foundations, such as the Open Society Foundations or the Ford Foundation. 

When drafting a human rights grant proposal, it’s essential to draw on data to back up your claim. This could include statistics on specific violations of human rights or data on the economic and social impacts of those violations. You need to prove there is a specific need that your nonprofit is poised to address. Good places to get started accumulating this data could include Human Rights Watch or Amnesty International.
