Internships can be one of the most effective ways for nonprofits to gain essential support, while training students and new employees methods of success in the nonprofit landscape. 

However, the most qualified candidates will only show for paid internships - and paid internships demonstrate your nonprofits care for its own members. Internship grants can help cover the costs of bringing on board interns either part-time or full time, for varying amounts of time. 

There are a variety of organizations that provide these kinds of internship grants. Traditionally, this included federal organizations, such as AmeriCorps. There are also many private foundations involved in this space, such as the Ford Foundation and the Annenberg Foundation. 

When drafting an internship grant proposal, it's essential that you clearly outline the assistance that your nonprofit needs that the interns or volunteers can provide. You need to further describe exactly how this applies to the mission of your nonprofit.
