K-12 education is one of the most foundational parts of the shaping of a future society. While later education can start to impart specific skills, K-12 is where children learn to learn. And yet despite being so essential, this area of education is often chronically underfunded. It is estimated that there is a $150 billion dollar gap in public education. There are many nonprofits who make it their mission to tackle this gap.

These nonprofits can only undertake this mission, of course, thanks to the generous funding provided by K-12 education grants. These grants can help cover a wide range of programs and initiatives. These could include funding educator salaries, new curriculum or updated facilities with the necessary technology. 

These are a wide range of organizations that provide K-12 Educational grants. Traditionally, this included federal agencies such as the U.S. Department of Education. There are also many private foundations involved in this space, such as The Gates Foundation and The Walton Family Foundation. 

When drafting a K-12 education grant proposal it's essential that you use data to clearly demonstrate the lack of funding and service you want to address. Good places to start looking for these statistics include the National Center for Education Statistics, or reports by EdWeek.
