Without medical research, we would never enjoy the level of medical care we enjoy today compared to past centuries or even decades. And without medical research, many diseases and conditions today will be forever without a cure. Despite this, medical research is chronically underfunded in America. There are many nonprofits who have made it their mission to step in and fill this gap. 

Medical research grants can be put towards a wide range of purposes. These could include supporting laboratory research, clinical trials or epidemiological studies. 

These grants come from a wide variety of sources. Traditionally, these included federal agencies, such as the National Institutes of Health, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. They could also include state health departments, or private foundations such as the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. 

When drafting medical research grant proposals, it's essential to use accurate and relevant data to support that proposal. You want to make it clear that there is a deficit in funding, and that your nonprofit is a position to address that deficit. Data you may want to include could be statistics on disease prevalence you want to support medical funding for, and the economic burdens of that disease.
