Rural communities often face unique economic, infrastructure and health challenges due to their low and dispersed population. Creating policies and opportunities that can cover all these areas is often difficult. This is why there are many nonprofits that have made rural affairs their main concerns. These nonprofits are only able to do what they do thanks to the generous funding provided by rural affairs grants.

These grants can be put towards all kinds of purposes, including rural healthcare, business support, education, housing and farming sustainability. There are an equally diverse set of organizations that are involved in this space. These include many private foundations, such as the W.K. Kellogg Foundation or the Ford Foundation. 

When drafting a rural affairs grant proposal it is essential to collect relevant, accurate and local data about the rural community you are hoping to help. This could include demographics, poverty statistics and healthcare statistics. Your own data, outlining the successes of your own nonprofit, will also be impactful.
