There are many social issues that we must all contend with in one way or another today. This can include poverty, inequality, abuse and racism. There are many nonprofits that make it their mission to tackle these kinds of issues head on. However, these nonprofits are only able to pursue this mission thanks to the generous funding provided by social issues grants. 

These grants can be put towards all kinds of purposes. This could include advocacy campaigns, public awareness initiatives or programs that deliver essentials such as food, shelter, healthcare and legal aid.

There are many different organizations that are involved in providing these kinds of grants. This includes many private foundations, such as the The Annie E. Casey Foundation, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation or the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. 

When drafting social issues grant proposals, it’s essential to make sure to use relevant data to back up your claim. Exactly what data you need to collect will depend on the mission and purpose of your nonprofit. Good places to start collecting relevant social data could include the U.S. Census Bureau or the Urban Institute.
