Heart disease is the leading cause of death within the United States. Millions of Americans are affected, with underserved communities particularly affected. There are many nonprofits who make dealing with heart disease and its effects as their main purpose and mission.

These nonprofits are only able to do their good work thanks to the generous funding provided by heart disease grants. These grants can be put towards all kinds of initiatives - education, prevention, early detection and patient support.  

There are many different organizations that might provide these kinds of grants. This traditionally included federal agencies, such as the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. There are also many private foundations in this space, including the American Heart Association and the CVS Health Foundation. 

When drafting a heart disease grant proposal, it's essential to use data to back up your claims. You need to clearly outline the need within your community of choice, and demonstrate how your nonprofit can address these needs. Relevant statistics could include heart disease mortality and hospitalization in your targeted region, or demographics most affected. Good places to start collecting this data include the CDC Heart Disease Statistics or the National Center for Health Statistics.
