Healthy Eating and Nutrition Grants for Nonprofits

Good nutrition and healthy eating is the basis for overall good health. However, many Americans are not getting the sort of nutrition they need and many have decidedly unhealthy diets, whether that be by choice, social situation or lack of education on nutrition. There are many nonprofits who make it their mission to improve access to healthy, nutritious food, as well as nutritional education.

These nonprofits can only do their work through the generous funding provided by nutrition grants. These grants can be put towards a wide range of purposes. These can include providing nutrition food to underserved communities, establishing community gardens or improving nutrition education in schools and beyond.

When drafting a nutrition grant proposal, it's essential to use evidence to back up the claim that your nonprofit’s work can make an impact. This data could include things such as the prevalence of diet-related conditions such as diabetes, obesity and heart disease in your targeted community. It could also include information on food insecurity in that area as well. You can start looking for this data in places such as the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, local health department reports or community surveys.
