Secondary Research - Investigating the Leads
After you have created your initial list of prospects, you will undertake the process of secondary research. This will eliminate those funders that are questionable, leaving you with a list of the strongest candidates to fund your project/program.
A key objective of this part of the process is to make sure that your work is truly aligned with a funding opportunity. You want to confirm that your work is something that the grantmaker is interested in supporting. Another objective is to gain information about the funder so that you can learn more about what would motivate them to support your project. You will then craft your proposal based on this information.
