Build an Approach That Gets Noticed - Other Components
In addition to articulating what you will do in your projects, the approach section usually contains several other components, including:
- a timeline
- descriptions of key staff and volunteers
- an explanation of project partners and their roles
Timeline
Funders often request a timeline in the approach section (or as an attachment) that lists significant activities in a chart or table format. While the timeline is usually part of the approach, it is not a replacement for the approach narrative. Timelines can be especially helpful in long applications to help break up the written text.
The timeline is simply a way for the reader to see the relationship between what needs to happen, when it needs to happen, and who needs to make it happen. If a funder provides a timeline template, use their format. Otherwise, you can use this timeline template.
