Establish Credibility With Your Organizational Background

The purpose of an organizational background section is to establish your organization’s credibility and qualifications for funding. It is your time to tell the story of your organization’s founding, current mission and programs, and the impact you have had. You want to “toot your own horn” and let the funder know your organization is worthy of their financial investment. 

Generally, the organizational background section includes the following components:

  • Brief Organizational History
  • Mission
  • Initiatives and Programs
  • Accomplishments and Strengths
  • Organizational Structure

Brief Organizational History

To tell your organization’s story, you want to address how the organization got started and why. This can be very effectively done with a “story” that engages both the hearts and mind of the reader.
