Challenge Seeks Technology Solutions to Improve Learning
MIT Solve: Global Learning Challenge
Application deadline: April 17, 2025
Grant amount: Each Solver team receives $10,000 in unrestricted funding from Solve and access to additional financing in the form of grants and investments.
Description: Through the Global Learning Challenge, MIT Solve seeks to address the question, “How can we make quality learning opportunities more accessible, while improving outcomes for all learners?” The Challenge seeks exceptional solutions that leverage technology to improve learning outcomes for all, with a particular interest in solutions that 1) increase access to quality learning experiences and materials, especially for those living in emergency and conflict-affected areas or with limited internet; 2) improve engagement and enable better learning outcomes for those with disabilities and learning differences, while benefiting all learners; and 3) provide the skills that people need to thrive in a complex world, from problem-solving to AI literacy, with adequate training and support for educators. Individuals, teams, and organizations are eligible to apply. Selected innovators receive a nine-month support program including coaching, unrestricted funding, and participation at Solve events.
Support Strengthens Feminist and Social Justice Movements
Mama Cash: Resilience Fund
Application deadline: Applications will be accepted from March 3 to 31, 2025.
Grant amount: €5,000 to €50,000 per year (The average grant size is €35,000.)
Description: Mama Cash supports women’s, girls', and trans and intersex people in their fight for their rights. The Resilience Fund provides long-term, flexible, core support grants to resource, support, and connect the collective activism of women, girls, and trans and intersex people around the world. Funding is provided to feminist groups, collectives, and initiatives that are founded, led, or run by people who belong to the communities whose rights they seek to advance. Supported groups are working to advance their own political and social agendas, to build connections across issues and borders, and to strengthen feminist and other social justice movements. Eligible applicants include registered organizations, informal or unregistered groups of activists, networks, and coalitions who are self-led by the people they work with and have the promotion of women’s, girls’, trans people’s, or intersex people’s human rights as their primary mission, and not just as the focus of part of their program.

Funds Aim to Restore River Flow in Europe
European Open Rivers Programme
Application deadline: March 14, 2025 (13:00 CET)
Geographic scope: Europe
Description: The mission of the European Open Rivers Programme is to restore endangered European rivers by supporting interventions that lead to the removal of small dams and the restoration of river flow and biodiversity. The current call for applications will provide funding for interventions that lead to dam removals in catchments that offer the highest potential for river restoration and ecosystem recovery. Grants are provided in the following categories: 1) program-supported dam removals, for projects that identify, prepare for, and then remove dams to restore river flow and biodiversity; and 2) enabling others to remove dams, to support dam removal preparatory work when funding for the removal (demolition) is secured from an alternative source.
Grants Advance Youth Employment in Selected Geographic Areas
Citi Foundation: Global Innovation Challenge
Application deadline: March 4, 2025, for registrations to apply, and March 18, 2025, for applications
Geographic scope: A list of eligible geographic areas is available in the application documents on the Foundation's website.
Grant amount: Grants of $500,000 over two years will be awarded to 50 organizations.
Description: The Global Innovation Challenge, an initiative of the Citi Foundation, supports community organizations that are developing innovative solutions to social and economic challenges facing low-income communities around the world. The 2025 Challenge focuses on youth employability and philanthropic grant support will be provided to community organizations developing innovative employment solutions for low-income youth primarily between the ages of 15 and 24. Examples of supported initiatives include upskilling and reskilling efforts, entrepreneurship programming, financial education, and more. Grants are meant to be catalytic in nature, supporting the piloting or expansion of ideas and projects in the field of youth employability. Registered nonprofit organizations are eligible to apply.

Medicor Foundation
Application deadline: None
Geographic scope: Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean, and Eastern Europe
Description: The Medicor Foundation, based in Liechtenstein, aims to contribute to the sustainable improvement of the well-being and empowerment of vulnerable and disadvantaged people in countries in Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean, and Eastern Europe. The Foundation supports projects in the fields of 1) education, including early childhood development, primary and secondary education, agricultural projects, and the development of professional skills or income generating skills; 2) health, with an emphasis on community health education, health personnel training, and health infrastructure; and 3) social care, including projects targeting seniors, individuals with disabilities, women and children who are victims of violence, and children who are abandoned, neglected, or abused. Projects must be implemented in only one country and must also have a direct positive impact on the lives of a large number of vulnerable and disadvantaged people and improve their living conditions.
Housing Security and Health Initiatives Funded in the U.K.
Leeds Building Society Foundation
Application deadline: May 9 and August 11, 2025
Grant amount: Small grants range up to £1,000. Large grants range from £25,000 to £100,000.
Geographic scope: The United Kingdom, with some emphasis on Yorkshire and the North East of England
Description: The Leeds Building Society Foundation funds projects in the U.K. supporting those in need of a safe and secure home. Funding is provided for projects that fit within the following thematic areas: financial stress, security and refuge, and quality and suitability of housing. Applications are also accepted under the theme “health and well-being support for those experiencing homelessness” if the project is part of wraparound support and the application also meets at least one of the other themes. The Foundation accepts small grant applications for capital expenditures from U.K. registered charities with a turnover of less than £1 million. Applications for large grants, which support core, project, or capital costs, are only accepted from registered charities based in Yorkshire or the North East of England.

Competition Fuels the Circular Economy
World Trade Organization: Small Business Champions Competition
Application deadline: March 28, 2025
Geographic scope: Global
Grant amount: Awards of $4,000 are made.
Description: The Small Business Champions Competition, an initiative of the World Trade Organization, the International Chamber of Commerce, and the International Trade Centre, recognizes initiatives that help micro, small, and medium enterprises enter the circular economy, as well as initiatives of small businesses that are active in the circular economy. The Competition seeks 1) initiatives such as awareness-raising campaigns, competitions, capacity building, training, mentoring and networking programs related to the circular economy; and 2) small businesses active in the circular economy with an innovative business concept that, through its operations, reduces, prevents, or repurposes waste in equivalent conventional business models. Non-governmental organizations, small businesses, industry associations, and chambers of commerce may apply by submitting their innovative business, project, or support ideas. Each winner receives $4,000 in prize money to develop and further scale their project.
Award Honors Efforts to Aid Refugees and Stateless People
Nansen Refugee Award
Application deadline: April 7, 2025
Geographic scope: Global
Grant amount: The global laureate receives a $100,000 award and regional winners receive a $25,000 award to further their humanitarian work.
Description: The Nansen Refugee Award, an initiative of UNHCR (the UN Refugee Agency), is awarded annually to an individual, group, or organization that has taken extraordinary action in protecting and assisting refugees, internally displaced, or stateless people. The work of the candidate must have a direct and positive impact on the lives of forcibly displaced or stateless people and relate to a major displacement situation or issue. (Self-nominations are strongly discouraged.)
