Grants Fuel Grassroots Efforts to Empower Women and Children
Women’s Inter-Church Council of Canada (aka World Day of Prayer Canada)

Geographic scope: Canada and global
Grant amount: Grants range from $500 to $5,000 CAD.
Description: The Women’s Inter-Church Council of Canada (WICC), also known as World Day of Prayer Canada, is a national ecumenical council in Canada focusing on bringing hope to women touched by injustice. WICC empowers grassroots projects through the World Day of Prayer Grant, which offers support in Canada and throughout the world to programs that empower women and children in the following areas: violence against women, economic justice, health, education, racism, and peace. Eligible applicants include registered charities based in Canada as well as organizations outside of Canada partnering with a Canadian registered charity.
Investigative Reporting Projects Supported
Data-Driven Reporting Project
Application deadline: March 31, 2025
Geographic scope: Canada and the United States
Award amount: $15,000 to $35,000
Description: The Data-Driven Reporting Project (DDRP) aims to support local news journalists and freelancers working on data-or-document-based investigative projects that serve local or underrepresented communities in Canada and the United States. The focus is on helping newsrooms do more and better investigative reporting based on data and document analysis. Support is provided to small to midsize newsrooms for investigations focused on specific geographic areas or underrepresented communities. Smaller newsrooms are encouraged to apply. The work can be in any storytelling medium (text, visual, or audio) and be a singular long-form piece or a series. Supported investigations should be substantially based on documents or other datasets and should be plausibly aimed at publication within the next 12 months. The DDRP is hosted by Northwestern University | Medill and receives financial support from the Google News Initiative and Arnold Ventures.
Funding Fosters Partnerships Working on Climate and Health
Burroughs Wellcome Fund: Climate Change and Human Health Seed Grants
Application deadline: April 24 and July 24, 2025
Geographic scope: Canada and the United States
Grant amount: $2,500 to $50,000
Description: The Burroughs Wellcome Fund seeks to nurture a diverse group of leaders in the biomedical sciences to improve human health. The Fund’s Climate Change and Human Health Seed Grants aim to stimulate the growth of new connections between thinkers working in largely disconnected fields who might together change the course of climate change’s impact on human health. Areas of interest include 1) linking basic and early biomedical science to climate-focused thinking; 2) sustainability in healthcare systems, healthcare delivery outside institutions, and biomedical research; 3) health impacts and health systems impacts of extreme weather events and other crises; and 4) outreach, communication, and education around climate and health. Applications may be submitted by nonprofit organizations or degree-granting institutions in Canada or the United States. This call focuses on developing partnerships. Proposals from single institutions must develop partnerships that do not already occur naturally.

Grants Enhance Community Safety and Well-Being in Ontario
Hydro One Community Investment Program
Application deadline: None for donations and sponsorships; March 17, 2025, for the Energizing Life Community Fund
Geographic scope: Ontario
Grant amount: Grants range up to $25,000.
Description: Hydro One's community investment focuses on building safe communities in Ontario. Support is provided through two programs. Donations and sponsorships support programs, events, and initiatives that focus on safety training and safe play. Indigenous communities and registered charities providing provincial or significant regional coverage are eligible to apply. The Energizing Life Community Fund focuses on improving community well-being in Ontario. The Fund provides grants to Indigenous communities, registered charities, and nonprofit organizations focused on improving community well-being and committed to cultural diversity in their communities.
Support Primarily Targets Programs in Saskatchewan
Our Lady of the Prairies Foundation
Application deadline: May 1 and October 1, annually
Geographic scope: Primarily Saskatchewan, but support is provided throughout Canada
Grant amount: Generally up to $10,000
Description: Our Lady of the Prairies Foundation provides support to charitable organizations in Canada. The Foundation is required to distribute at least 75% of all grants to organizations who carry out activities in Saskatchewan. Organizations in other Canadian provinces are also supported. Grants are provided for spiritual, social, healing, educational, and environmental programs. Preference is given to projects that empower people and strive to be inclusive. Registered charities are eligible to apply.
Funds Boost Physical Activity for Alberta Women and Girls
InMotion Network
Application deadline: The upcoming deadlines are April 1, 2025, for Go Girl, Girls in Motion, and Women in Motion grants, and April 30, 2025, for Take the Lead grants.
Geographic scope: Alberta
Grant amount: Take the Lead funding ranges up to $1,000 per individual and $3,000 per organization. Go Girl, Girls in Motion, and Women in Motion grants range up to $2,500.
Description: InMotion Network seeks to remove barriers for individuals in Alberta who are underserved by the sporting, recreation, and physical activity systems. While its focus is on removing barriers for women and girls, the Network acknowledges that gender is non binary and just one of the many intersecting categories that contribute to exclusion. Grants are awarded through several programs: The Take the Lead program aims to help Albertan girls and women become experienced leaders in the sports and recreation fields. Eligible applicants consist of coaches, officials, and sports and recreation administrators applying with a provincial sport organization, charity, or nonprofit. The Go Girl program supports organizations to host a Go Girl event, especially those addressing the needs of girls who are inactive or unable to access activity programs due to various limitations. The Girls in Motion and Women in Motion grants support organizations to run high-quality recreational, sports, and physical activity programs for girls ages six to 17, and women ages 18 and older, respectively. Nonprofit and charitable organizations are eligible to apply for the Go Girl, Girls in Motion, and Women in Motion programs.

Description: The Access to Justice in Both Official Languages Support Fund aims to increase the capacity of the justice system and its stakeholders to offer justice services in both official languages. This program also seeks to increase awareness in the legal community and official language minority and majority communities concerning their rights and issues related to access to justice in both official languages.
Grants Facilitate Artistic Tours Abroad
Canada Council for the Arts
Application deadline: April 9, 2025
Geographic scope: Canada
Grant amount: Up to $200,000
Description: The Circulation and Touring component of Arts Abroad funds activities linked to artistic exchange and networking for Canadian artists, artistic groups, and arts organizations. Grants help build international exposure and increase the visibility of Canadian artists and their works abroad. Supported activities include the circulation or touring of artists, exhibitions, or artistic works to one or more international locations as well as cross-border Canada/United States tours with a majority of events in the U.S. International presenters, partners, or host organizations must contribute financially (generally up to 50%) to the tour.
Efforts to Improve the Lives of PEI Seniors Funded
Government of Prince Edward Island
Application deadline: March 25, 2025
Geographic scope: Prince Edward Island
Grant amount: Up to $5,000
Description: The Government of PEI’s Department of Social Development and Seniors is currently offering two funding opportunities. The Seniors Secretariat Grant provides funding to community-based organizations for projects that are designed to improve the lives of PEI seniors, in line with the priorities of the Seniors Secretariat. The Seniors Community Meal Grant supports community-based organizations to provide free communal meals for PEI seniors. Project funding can help offset meal costs to create new community meal programs or expand existing ones. Groups eligible for funding include nonprofit organizations, community-based coalitions and networks, municipal governments, and Indigenous organizations across Prince Edward Island.
