Grants Improve Access to Dental Care for Children
AAPD Foundation: Access to Care Grants
Application deadline: September 23, 2024
Geographic scope: United States, including U.S. territories
Grant amount: Up to $30,000
Description: The AAPD (American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry) Foundation is dedicated to making dental care accessible to all children. Through the Access to Care Grants, support is provided to community-based initiatives in the U.S. and U.S. territories that provide dental care and serve as a primary dentist to underserved children and children with limited access. Supported initiatives must be dentist-led, with priority given to projects with pediatric dentist leadership. Eligible applicants include, but are not limited to, nonprofit 501(c)(3) or 501 (c)(6) organizations, local health jurisdictions, county health departments, hospitals and clinics, state government agencies, colleges and schools of dentistry, colleges and schools of medicine (pediatric and family medicine departments only), and national, state, and local dental societies.
Organizations Working to Defend Basic Freedoms Funded
Herb Block Foundation: Defending Basic Freedoms
Application deadline: October 2, 2024, for letters of inquiry
Grant amount: $5,000 to $25,000
Description: The Herb Block Foundation is committed to defending the basic freedoms guaranteed to all Americans, combating all forms of discrimination and prejudice, and improving the conditions of the poor and underprivileged. The Foundation’s Defending Basic Freedoms program provides support to 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations nationwide to help safeguard the basic freedoms guaranteed in the U.S. Bill of Rights, help eliminate all forms of prejudice and discrimination, and assist government agencies to be more accountable to the public. The Foundation will also consider contemporary societal issues that may arise.
Support Available for Adult Literacy Programs
Wish You Well Foundation
Application deadline: None
Grant amount: $200 to $10,000
Description: The Wish You Well Foundation supports adult and family literacy in the United States by fostering the development and expansion of new and existing adult literacy and educational programs. The focus is on supporting nonprofit organizations that teach adults the literacy skills they need to communicate, grow, and thrive within their communities. (Funding is not provided for youth programs.)

MrBallen Foundation: Honor Grants

Grant amount: Up to $25,000
Description: The mission of the MrBallen Foundation is to honor victims and families of victims affected by heinous crimes. The Foundation’s Honor Grants provide support to 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations that provide services to victims, or families of victims, affected by heinous or egregious crimes or crimes that resulted in accidental death or dismemberment. Grants can be used for a wide range of projects or programs.

School-to-Career Efforts for Black Youth Supported in NBA Markets
NBA Foundation
Application deadline: Applications for 2024 are being accepted on a rolling basis.
Geographic scope: NBA market communities
Description: The NBA Foundation seeks to drive economic opportunity in the Black community through employment and career development by funding programs that generate successful transitions from school to meaningful employment for Black youth. The Foundation supports organizations operating in NBA markets in the U.S. and Canada that promote school-to-career employment opportunities, including job readiness, skill training, job placement, and career advancement, for Black youth ages 14 to 24. U.S. nonprofit organizations and Canadian registered charities that target Black youth ages 14 to 24 years old and serve a minimum of 25 youth annually are eligible for support.
Funds Advance Rural LGBTQ+ Organizations in the Upper Midwest
PFund Foundation: PRISM Fund
Application deadline: September 9, 2024
Geographic scope: Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin, and the Native Nations therein
Grant amount: $10,000 to $20,000
Description: PFund Foundation builds community and provides resources for LGBTQ+ individuals across the upper Midwest. PFund’s PRISM (Promoting Rural Interconnections for Sexual Minorities) Fund supports rural LGBTQ+ organizations from across PFund’s five-state service area of Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin, and the Native Nations therein. The Fund works to increase the capacity and connection of rural LGBTQ+ serving organizations through grants, trainings, and cohort collaboration. Eligible organizations must primarily serve LGBTQIA2S+ populations in the five-state service area, have been in operation at least one year as of September 1, be based in a rural community or serve rural populations (defined as small and mid-sized towns under 50,000 people), and be registered as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization or have a nonprofit fiscal sponsor. Selected organizations receive general operating grants and participate in monthly virtual meetings to form a coalition known as the PRISM Alliance.
Grants Benefit Youth and the Environment in Oregon and Hawaii
The Healy Foundation
Application deadline: Letters of inquiry are accepted on an ongoing basis. Invited applications are reviewed quarterly.
Geographic scope: Hawaii and Oregon
Grant amount: Up to $50,000
Description: The Healy Foundation supports nonprofit organizations in Hawaii and Oregon in the areas of youth, environment, and community. In the area of youth, the focus is on youth education, youth advocacy, and reducing childhood poverty. In the area of the environment, the focus is on climate change mitigation and organizations working to protect ecosystems. (While the majority of grants are in support of youth or the environment, a small amount of community grants, typically in response to an acute need, may be awarded.) All grants are unrestricted.
Support Strengthens Kansas Health Initiatives
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas Foundation
Application deadline: None for requests up to $5,000 (Requests over $5,000 must contact the Foundation.)
Geographic scope: Kansas, with the exception of Johnson and Wyandotte counties
Description: The Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas Foundation is committed to helping all Kansans lead healthier lives. The Foundation provides support to 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations with health-related missions or programs in the Foundation's 103-county service area, which includes all Kansas counties except Johnson and Wyandotte. Funding focuses on the following categories: promoting health improvement, community health access and health education, healthy behaviors, prevention initiatives, and direct health services to the uninsured. Applications for up to $5,000 may be submitted online at any time. For grants of over $5,000, applicants must contact the Foundation for additional information or a conversation. (In addition to its regular grantmaking, the Foundation’s Healthy Habits for Life program provides funding to Kansas schools for programs promoting healthy lifestyle choices to their K-12 students. The application information for this program will be available in September 2024.)

Description: The Good Jobs Challenge program supports regional workforce training systems in designing and implementing activities for established sectoral partnerships that place program participants in good jobs and advance industries in the federal key technology focus areas, including issues related to AI, quantum information, robotics, disaster prevention, biotechnology and medical technology, data, energy, and materials science. The program aims to fortify the economic and national security of the United States and advance the competitiveness of the applicant’s region.
Great Lakes Restoration Efforts Funded

Description: The Great Lakes Restoration Initiative supports projects in the Great Lakes basin that implement the following strategic priority actions: implement targeted reforestation and forest protection actions to minimize invasive forest insect and disease impacts on watersheds; capture or treat stormwater runoff by planting trees and other vegetation as an integral component of green infrastructure; and protect, restore, and enhance high-quality coastal zone and connecting riparian ecosystems where trees are an important component.

Eligible charitable and nonprofit organizations must submit applications by September 5.
Applications are now open for TD Bank Group’s annual TD Ready Challenge grant program. This year, the bank invites charitable and nonprofit organizations in its North America footprint to submit proposals for innovative solutions for the creation or growth of small businesses in underserved communities through novel strategies, technologies, or partnerships, particularly in industries that are still recovering post-pandemic.
