Description: The mission of the Georgina Foundation is to support health and well-being in Canada. The Foundation’s focus areas consist of physical and mental health, support programs and social services, and food banks. Examples of supported initiatives include, but are not limited to camps for children with disabilities, bereavement support for children, nutrition education for low-income families, preventing isolation among seniors, and other programs targeting abused women, seniors, children and youth, and those facing poverty. Registered charities are eligible to apply.

Projects Improving Access to Justice Supported
Rt. Hon. Beverley McLachlin Access to Justice Fund

Application deadline: September 16, 2024
Grant amount: Grants range from $25,000 to $100,000 per year for up to three years.
Description: The Rt. Hon. Beverley McLachlin Access to Justice Fund supports innovative projects and programs to improve access to civil and family justice in Canada. Priority is given to initiatives that address a defined access to justice problem in a way that can be effectively evaluated and scaled-up or adopted elsewhere if successful. Collaborations are welcome, as are pilot projects with the potential to be replicated or scaled. Projects may be national, provincial/territorial, or regional/local in scope. Registered charities and qualified donees throughout Canada are eligible to apply.

Grants Aid Organizations Assisting Victims of Domestic Violence
Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation: Shelter Grant Program

Application deadline: September 30, 2024
Grant amount: Sixteen grants of $10,000 will be made. 
Description: The mission of the Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation is to enrich the lives of women and their families in Canada. The Foundation's Shelter Grant Program provides funds to shelters and outreach programs that aid children and women impacted by domestic violence. Awarded funds may be used for the operating budget of the shelter, with the exception of staff travel.

Efforts to Enhance the Canadian Trail System Funded
Trans Canada Trail

Application deadline: None
Description: The mission of Trans Canada Trail is to lead, develop, and steward an accessible nationwide system of connected urban and rural trails. The organization offers a variety of trail-related funding opportunities. The Trails Support Program for First Nation, Métis and Inuit Communities is intended to assist Indigenous communities across the country in enhancing their trails. All Indigenous communities are eligible to apply for up to $10,000, including those not along the Trans Canada Trail. The Planting for Tomorrow Program aims to increase tree cover in communities along or near the Trans Canada Trail. It provides matching funding for tree-planting, invasive species removal, seed collection, and seed starting projects that contribute to nature-based solutions to improve ecosystems, enhance biodiversity, and engage the local community in volunteerism and participation. The Trail Funding Program is intended to support trail operators across Canada in the development and enhancement of the Trans Canada Trail by offering a range of funding streams designed to support specific trail priorities.

Description: Canadian Natural aims to promote long-term growth and prosperity in the communities where the company operates in Western Canada. Company communities include locations in Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan. The company provides support in the areas of health, safety, and wellness, including hospitals and clinics and programs supporting families and children; education and training, including programs and infrastructure improvements at local schools and universities; and social and cultural events and traditional practices, including a broad variety of local events that bring communities together and help build resiliency.

Grants Promote Arts, Sports, and Recreation in Yukon
Yukon Lottery Commission/Lotteries Yukon

Application deadline: Applications for the Travel Assistance Program are accepted on a rolling basis. The annual deadlines for the Projects Fund are April 15 and October 15. 
Geographic scope: Yukon Territory
Description: The Yukon Lottery Commission provides funding assistance for arts, sports, and recreation in Yukon through Lotteries Yukon's funding programs. Applications are currently being accepted through two programs: The Travel Assistance Program provides small grants to nonprofit groups and extra-curricular high school groups attending competitions or adjudicated events in art, sports, and recreation within Yukon or outside Yukon. The Projects Fund provides funding to projects that sustain and contribute to the growth of the arts, sports, and recreation within Yukon for the benefit and enjoyment of Yukon people, including by increasing access and participation, developing skills and abilities, enhancing infrastructure, and increasing organizational and community capacity. (Applications for the Community Lottery Program, which supports municipalities and local authorities, will be accepted in early 2025.)

Funds Improve the Lives of At-Risk Youth in Southern Ontario
Charles H. Ivey Foundation

Application deadline: September 16, 2024, for grant proposal letters
Geographic scope: Southern Ontario
Grant amount: $5,000 to $150,000 over one to three years
Description: The Charles H. Ivey Foundation provides support in Southern Ontario, including the area south of Ottawa, North Bay, Sudbury, and Sault Ste. Marie. The Foundation supports innovative projects to assist youth at risk, aged 13 to 25, in the areas of education, healthcare, social services, arts and culture, and the environment. The Foundation has a preference for smaller organizations and for funding specific projects. Registered charities based in Southern Ontario are eligible to apply.

Land and Freshwater Conservation Efforts Supported in BC
BC Conservation Fund

Application deadline: Expressions of interest are accepted on a rolling basis, but the Fund encourages submissions by September 30, 2024, to be part of the first round of reviews.
Geographic scope: British Columbia
Grant amount: It is anticipated that for the identification of provincial-scale biodiversity needs and priority areas and smaller, more community-based initiatives, grants will tend to range up to $100,000, while more complex, multi-year projects and initiatives will likely range up to $250,000. 
Description: The BC Conservation Fund, an initiative of the BC Parks Foundation, supports the conservation of biodiverse land and freshwater areas in British Columbia. The Fund’s mission is to conserve priority areas in BC that are ecologically and bioculturally diverse through sustained, reliable, long-term financing. Applications are currently being accepted through Stream 1, Area-Based Conservation, for two types of projects: Area-Based Conservation Initiatives lead to the protection of a specific area of land and freshwater with defined boundaries. Biodiverse Area Identification projects improve provincial-scale understanding of biodiversity needs, pressures, and priority areas for protection. Registered charities and qualified donees are eligible to apply. Organizations that are not qualified donees, particularly First Nations applicants, can contact the Fund for assistance.

Call Addresses Issues Impacting Arctic and Northern Communities
National Research Council of Canada

Application deadline: October 4, 2024
Geographic scope: Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Inuit Nunangat
Grant amount: Development grants of up to $50,000 over 12 months will be awarded.
Description: The Arctic and Northern Challenge program aims to address pressing issues impacting the quality of life of Northern peoples. Through the current call for proposals, grants will be awarded to Northern applicants to conduct community-level consultations to ensure local support for a project idea and to prepare for a research and development proposal in one of the program's four research themes: housing, water, food, and health for Arctic and Northern peoples and communities. Eligible applicants include Indigenous and Northern organizations (for-profit or nonprofit) and communities, academic organizations, and territorial and Indigenous governments in Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Inuit Nunangat.

Grants Bolster Indigenous Culture and Economic Development in AB
Government of Alberta

Geographic scope: Alberta
Grant amount: Up to $100,000
Description: The Indigenous Reconciliation Initiative advances reconciliation by funding Indigenous-led cultural and economic projects in Alberta. Funding is provided through two streams: The Cultural Stream funds Indigenous-led initiatives that enhance, protect, or revitalize Indigenous languages, cultures, and arts. The Economic Stream funds Indigenous-led capacity and economic development projects that improve economic outcomes for communities. Eligible applicants consist of Indigenous communities and organizations located in Alberta, including First Nations, Metis Settlements General Council and Metis Settlements, Métis Nation of Alberta, Aseniwuche Winewak Nation, Tribal Councils and Treaty Organizations, Indigenous nonprofit organizations, and Friendship Centres.
