$9.5 Million Available to Address the Needs of Black Communities
Foundation for Black Communities: Black Ideas Grant
Application deadline: November 8, 2024
Grant amount: Up to $200,000 (A total of $9.5 million will be awarded.)
Description: The Foundation for Black Communities seeks to ensure that Black-led, Black-serving, and Black-focused nonprofit, charitable, and grassroots organizations in Canada have the sustained resources and infrastructures they need to make a meaningful impact. The Foundation’s Black Ideas Grant (B.I.G.) 2.0 aims to address the most pressing needs of Black communities and improve socio-economic outcomes, with a focus on combating anti-Black racism, improving social outcomes, and improving economic outcomes. Grants are awarded through the following streams: Core Stream (up to $30,000), to support core and operational needs; Catapult Stream (up to $80,000), to invest in new or expand existing programs and services; and Community Spaces Stream (up to $200,000), for capital projects and social infrastructure. Eligible applicants must be a registered charity, an incorporated nonprofit, or an unincorporated nonprofit or group working with an incorporated partner; located in Canada; and Black-led, Black-mandated, and Black-serving.
Funds Build Digital Capacity of Museums and Cultural Organizations
Digital Museums Canada
Application deadline: December 1, 2024
Grant amount: $25,000 for Community Stories and up to $250,000 for Digital Projects
Description: Digital Museums Canada (DMC) helps build digital capacity in Canadian museums and heritage, cultural, and Indigenous organizations, giving people living in Canada unique access to diverse stories and experiences. DMC provides funding to Canadian museums and heritage, cultural, or Indigenous organizations through two streams. The Community Stories stream supports organizations who are seeking to develop a Community Stories website using DMC’s website-building platform. The Digital Projects stream funds organizations seeking to develop an online project from the ground up, in collaboration with a web development agency of their choice. Eligible projects include virtual exhibitions, virtual tours of heritage sites, online games, web apps, educational resources, and more. For both streams, proposed projects or websites should be developed around telling a story to a specific target audience with a tailored user experience.
Grants Promote Education on Environmental Justice and Climate Adaptation
Commission for Environmental Cooperation: EJ4Climate Grant Program

Geographic scope: United States, Canada, and Mexico
Grant amount: Up to C$175,000
Description: The EJ4Climate Grant Program, an initiative of the Commission for Environmental Cooperation, supports projects that target underserved and vulnerable communities and Indigenous communities in Canada, Mexico, and the United States to prepare them for climate-related impacts and to advance environmental justice. Funding is provided to community-based organizations to help them develop community-driven solutions. For this grant cycle, the focus is on community-led education programs, both formal and informal, in support of environmental justice and climate adaptation. Potential projects could promote the acquisition of climate adaptation knowledge related to extreme weather impacts, transition to clean energy sources, conservation or restoration initiatives, traditional ecological knowledge to address climate change impacts, and food sovereignty. Community-led education approaches may include, but are not limited to, hands-on activities, place-based learnings, community science initiatives, knowledge exchange with elders, training and capacity building, awareness campaigns, and engaging youth as agents of change.
Support Benefits Individuals with Spinal Cord Injury, MS, and ALS
Paralyzed Veterans of America Education Foundation

Geographic scope: Canada and the U.S.
Grant amount: Up to $75,000 for projects, and up to $20,000 for conferences or symposia
Description: The Paralyzed Veterans of America Education Foundation funds innovative educational projects designed to benefit veterans and others living with spinal cord injury (SCI), multiple sclerosis (MS), or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) as well as their families, caregivers, and healthcare professionals. The Foundation supports four types of projects: 1) Consumer, Caregiver, and Community Education, focused on demonstration projects and technologies that seek to improve the health, independence, and quality of life of individuals with spinal cord injury and disease (SCI/D); 2) Professional Development and Education, focused on programs that improve the knowledge and competencies of professionals providing healthcare and related services to the SCI/D community; 3) Research Translation, focused on projects that move research findings into practical application; and 4) Conferences and Symposia, focused on meetings that provide education and opportunities for collaboration among members of the SCI/D community. Applications are accepted from fiscally responsible organizational entities in the name of the project director (applicant). Eligible entities are nonprofit organizations, nonprofit academic institutions, nonprofit healthcare institutions, and associations in Canada or the United States. While grantee institutions must be located in Canada or the U.S, the applicant and key staff are not required to be U.S. or Canadian citizens.

Amateur Sports Initiatives Funded in Saskatchewan
1989 Jeux Canada Games Foundation
Application deadline: November 30, annually
Geographic scope: Saskatchewan
Grant amount: $2,500 to $10,000
Description: The 1989 Jeux Canada Games Foundation was established with funds remaining after completion of the 1989 Jeux Canada Games. The Foundation awards grants for initiatives that assist in the development of amateur sports in Saskatchewan, with priority given to programs that have long-lasting benefits. Support is also provided for coaching and grassroots sports development. Applicants must be registered provincially or federally as a nonprofit corporation.
Program and Capital Grants Address Homelessness in Rural Ontario

Application deadline: November 19, 2024, for the Indigenous Programming Fund and the Mainstream Programming Fund; December 17, 2024, for Capital Funds
Geographic scope: Rural and remote Ontario
Grant amount: Grants range up to $150,000 for the Indigenous Programming Fund and the Mainstream Programming Fund, and up to $500,000 for Capital Funds.
Description: United Way Simcoe Muskoka, in partnership with the Regional Advisory Board, is currently looking to support organizations working in rural and remote communities in Ontario. Through Reaching Home: Canada’s Homelessness Strategy, a total of over $3.5 million will be available to support the needs of individuals and families who are homeless or at imminent risk of homelessness. Grants will be awarded through three funds: The Indigenous Programming Fund will award three-year grants for Indigenous-led programming to support homelessness interventions for Indigenous peoples. The Mainstream Programming Fund will award three-year grants for mainstream organizations offering interventions for homelessness. Finally, Capital Funds will provide one-year funding for the purchase of land or a building, renovations to an existing site, or building of new facilities to address homelessness.
Support Bolsters Food Literacy at BC K-12 Schools

Geographic scope: British Columbia
Grant amount: Up to $1,000
Description: Farm to School BC (F2SBC), a program of the Public Health Association of BC supported by the Province of British Columbia, seeks to empower and support schools in building comprehensive farm to school programs that support vibrant and sustainable regional food systems, develop student food literacy, and enhance school and community connectedness. Small grants are awarded to K-12 schools located in British Columbia for food literacy projects. Grants are designed to support new and established school initiatives that encourage students to explore, learn, and grow through food. For 2024, approximately 40 grants will be awarded, with priority given to rural, remote, and First Nations schools as well as schools that have never received funding through F2SBC. K-12 schools are eligible to apply.

Efforts to Respond to the Overdose Crisis Supported

Geographic scope: Canada
Grant amount: The maximum funding allowed per recipient is $2 million per fiscal year.
Description: The Emergency Treatment Fund (ETF) provides urgent, targeted funding to municipalities and Indigenous communities to support rapid responses to the overdose crisis. Funding will address urgent and immediate needs, as defined by the communities, to bolster local capacity and provide access to culturally appropriate, trauma-informed, and evidence-based programs and services. Indigenous entities and Canadian municipalities outside of Quebec are eligible to apply.
Grants Protect Communities at Risk for Hate Crime

Geographic scope: Canada
Grant amount: Up to $1.5 million per project
Description: The Canada Community Security Program provides time-limited funding and support for communities at risk of hate-motivated incidents and crime to enhance security measures at their gathering spaces. Eligible applicants include private, nonprofit organizations, including places of worship, community centers, educational institutions, shelters serving victims of gender-based violence, office and administrative spaces, cemeteries, and childcare centers.
